About the Australian Government Services Fraud tip-off line
Each year, millions of dollars of taxpayers' money is lost due to fraud against health and welfare services and payments.
The Australian Government Services Fraud tip-off line provides people with a place to report suspected fraud against Centrelink, Medicare, the Pharmaceuticals Benefits Scheme and the Child Support Agency.
Most people are honest and use Government services fairly, but if you have information about someone who is misusing these services, please contact us.
You can remain anonymous, and the information you provide will help us ensure the services support those who really need them.
What is fraud?
Fraud is dishonestly obtaining a benefit by deception or other means.
Tip-offs for the Child Support Agency (CSA)
If you are an existing child support customer and you think the other parent may be behaving fraudulently, first contact the Child Support Agency directly to discuss this. We will protect your privacy and confidentiality, and we will discuss your case with you in detail, including providing you with all of your options.
If you are not a child support customer you should contact the tip-off line if you have evidence that a child support customer is behaving fraudulently.
Examples of fraudulent behaviour:
- Child support customers who are living together in a 'marriage like relationship' but claim to be separated
- Either parent is earning money 'cash-in-hand' and not declaring it, which means their assessment may not determine the correct amount of child support
- There is evidence a parent is working but not reporting their full income, therefore they are not receiving or paying the correct level of child support
- Someone claiming child support who no longer has the child/ren living with them.
Supporting the system – it's in your interest
Remember, it is in everyone's interest to support the child support system. When people do not pay the right amount of child support or behave fraudulently, it is often the community that pays. Help keep the child support system healthy - report fraud.
