Care arrangements
A child support assessment is based on the care arrangements between the
parents which is set by informal arrangement, parenting plan or court order.
You should advise CSA as soon as the care arrangements change as this may
change the amount of child support payable.
Change of address
To ensure that you receive important correspondence from CSA, it is important
to let us know of your change in contact details as soon as possible.
Children's circumstances
Some events may affect your child support payments, such as your child turning
18, or your child having special needs.
Death
The death of a parent or child can affect a child support assessment so it is
important that you (or your representative) inform CSA as soon as possible. CSA
can also put you in touch with support services which can help you through this
difficult time.
Employment
When you get a new job, re-enter the workforce, or become unemployed, your
lifestyle and finances can change. This may affect your child support
assessment.
Income
Child support is calculated using the incomes of both parents. Any changes to
your income may affect the amount of child support payable.
New partner
Re-partnering and forming second families can be a significant event, which may
impact your living arrangements, your finances or you care arrangements. This
may in turn affect your child support assessment.
Reconciliation
If you and your ex partner reconcile, you need to inform CSA as soon as
possible to discuss your options. If you don't your child support assessment
will continue which could result in the payer accumulating a debt.
Violence
Family violence can affect parents both paying and receiving child care payments. Contact CSA to discuss your
options if you are experiencing family violence.
