How do I choose private collect?

If I am NOT an existing CSA customer

You can choose private collect when you:

• register a court order
• apply to CSA to make an assessment
• register an agreement with CSA.

If I am an existing CSA customer

Both parents or you individually, can choose to move to private collection at any time. This can be arranged over the phone, or by completing a Request for private collection form.

When you choose to end CSA collection, you can also elect for CSA not to collect any unpaid amounts (arrears).

You cannot elect to have CSA continue collecting ongoing amounts of child support but stop collecting arrears.

To end CSA collection does not end the paying parent's liability to pay child support. Any amounts due under the court order or administrative assessment continue to be payable directly to you rather than to CSA. If you choose you can enforce payment of the liability privately.

CSA initiated move to private collection

In some cases, CSA may decide that you should collect child support payments privately where:

• the payer has had a satisfactory payment record for the past 6 months
• CSA is satisfied that the paying parent will continue to pay your child support on time and
• CSA is satisfied that private payment arrangements are appropriate for all the parties involved.

If you or the payer disagrees with that decision you may lodge an Objection.
