Helping Australians survive separation

To assist parents with the difficulties of separation, the Minister for Human Services, Joe Hockey, today launched a CD-ROM with many tips and hints on dealing with the emotions and complex issues faced by parents during this difficult process.

The Child Support Agency (CSA) has developed its world first interactive CD-ROM - Dealing With Separation.

Surviving separation can be a very tough and emotional experience, but with a divorce rate over 40 percent in Australia, it is a challenge facing many families and an issue for the entire community. The Child Support Agency is in contact with many of these families, helping more than 1.3 million separated parents.

The CD-ROM is a must for any parent experiencing the turmoil of a relationship breakdown and it will help ensure that people have the right support when they need it.

The Federal Governmen's number one priority is the 1.1 million children who benefit from receiving child support. We also know the more we do to support the mums and dads, the sooner they can move forward - and tha's good for the kids.

Dealing With Separation is about real people in real situations. Seeing and hearing emotions felt by other separated parents will help you realise what you are feeling is normal.

There is information on dealing with self-esteem, loneliness, anger, how to recognise the symptoms of stress and depression and when to seek professional help.

There's a lot to take in, so the CD-ROM is designed to be used at your own pace and enables you to focus on the bits of information you need - when you need it.
