The impact of separation can be devastating. It is a major life crisis that affects the way you feel, think and act. Amongst the shattered dreams and emotional havoc it's very easy to forget to look after yourself.
A new booklet called 'What about Me?' is a must for anyone going through the painful process of separation. It's been produced by the Child Support Agency with input from parents who've experienced the reality of separation.
Catherine Argall, General Manager, Child Support Agency said What about Me? is full of practical advice and tips to help parents going through separation. "Separation can feel like a dark tunnel. You and your children will come through the process in better shape if you take care of yourself emotionally and seek help when you need it," she said.
What about Me? will help:
"What about Me? can be used by anyone who wants information on looking after themselves and their children during and after separation," Ms Argall said.
"If you or anyone you know is going through separation and is feeling emotionally vunerable, its important to seek help from friends or professionals. You don't need to go it alone."
What about Me? is the third booklet in a 5 part series that is being produced by the Child Support Agency to address the key issues of separation: care of children, finance, personal wellbeing, new relationships, and dealing with the other parent. The first booklet My and my Kids: Parenting From A Distance gives tips and hints to help separated parents build on their relationship with their kids after separation. The second booklet Me and My Money gives tips and hints for managing your money after separation.
Separated parents can call CSA on 131 272 to request a free copy of the booklets. They can also call this number to arrange for a referral to confidential counselling services provided by independant professionals.
