A thorough internal review has commenced in the Child Support Agency to address concerns of bias from some parents.
Mr. Matt Miller, General Manager of the Child Support Agency announced today that CSA has started reviewing operational policy and procedures to ensure that there are no systemic biases within CSA's operations.
"Since taking up this role I have been speaking to a lot of parent groups and dads in particular have concerns that staff give more weight to claims made by the resident parent - usually the mother," Mr. Miller said.
"This review will ensure that our processes treat both parents equally and that there is a balanced approach to assessing information provided by both parties."
"We will ensure key stakeholders are consulted in the review process and that they are advised of the review findings," Mr. Miller said.
"It is important that we build confidence in the CSA's decisions and so we must openly address all concerns about the CSA."
Mr. Barry Williams, National President of the Lone Fathers Association of Australia said today, "We welcome the decision by CSA's Matt Miller to get a more balanced mix of staff and appreciate the very open and approachable manner of Mr. Miller in dealing with customer's issues about gender bias."
"While the comprehensive review will most likely extend over the next 12 months, any interim findings which identify a need for change will be actioned swiftly," Mr. Miller said.
"CSA is also reviewing internal recruitment practices to ensure we attract the right mix of genders, age groups, and ethnicity to give all parents the first class customer service they deserve."
The review is part of the Building a Better CSA program announced in late February by the Minister for Human Services, the Hon Joe Hockey MP.
