2006 legislative reforms
The Child Support Legislation Amendment (Reform of the Child Support Scheme—Initial Measures) Bill 2006 was given Royal Assent on 15 June 2006. This means that the proposed legislation for Phase 1 of the reforms has become law and commenced on 1 July 2006.

2001 legislative reforms
The Child Support legislation Amendment Bill (2000) was passed through Parliament on June 29 2001. The Parliament supported all but three of the measures in the Bill. The three that were not supported have not become law.

1999 legislative reforms
The introduction of the Child Support legislation in the late 1980's represented a significant administrative shift in the management of child support responsibilities.
