1988

• CSA established to administer the Australian Government’s Child Support Scheme

1989

• Legislation was passed, giving CSA the ability to assess, through a formula, how much child support should be paid.

1996

• CSA changes its organisation to help separated parents voluntarily meet their child support responsibilities

1998

• CSA separates from the Australian Taxation Office and becomes part of the Department of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs

2004

• CSA becomes part of the Department of Human Services

2006

• $700 million overhaul of the Child Support System and the Building a Better CSA package of reforms to the delivery of services all CSA customers

2006 – 2008

• $700 million overhaul of the Child Support System and the Building a Better CSA package of reforms to the delivery of services all CSA customers
  
  Staged introduction of the Child Support Scheme Reforms

July 2008

• New child support formula is introduced
