1988
- CSA established to administer the Australian Government’s Child Support Scheme
1989
- Legislation was passed, giving CSA the ability to assess, through a formula, how much child
support should be paid.
1996
- CSA changes its organisation to help separated parents voluntarily meet their child support
responsibilities
1998
- CSA separates from the Australian Taxation Office and becomes part of the Department of
Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs
2004
- CSA becomes part of the Department of Human Services
2006
- $700 million overhaul of the Child Support System and the Building a Better CSA package of
reforms to the delivery of services all CSA customers
2006 – 2008
