Parents living overseas
If you are living and working outside Australia your overseas income will be used in calculating your
child support.
When you provide the CSA with your overseas income you will need to do the following:
- Provide your income in the foreign currency that you were paid, not in Australian dollars.
- Provide the income you earned during the overseas financial year, not in the Australian financial
year.
- Provide documentary evidence of that income.
The CSA will apply an appropriate exchange rate to convert foreign income into Australian dollars.
If you have not provided your overseas income the CSA may calculate a default income until a more
accurate income can be obtained. If the CSA has not been advised of your actual income you risk paying
an incorrect amount of child support or accruing a child support debt.
If you don’t provide your overseas income information, the CSA may contact authorities in your
country to request it.
