Works for you The Paid Parental Leave scheme provides a government funded entitlement for working parents. Parental Leave Pay will be available to working parents who meet the eligibility criteria. You will have access to Parental Leave Pay if you are the primary carer of a child born or adopted from 1 January 2011. If you are eligible, you will be able to receive Parental Leave Pay at the National Minimum Wage, for up to 18 weeks. If you think you may be eligible, you will have the choice to receive either Parental Leave Pay or the Baby Bonus depending on which is the best financial decision for your family. Caretaker Arrangements

On 19 July 2010 the Australian Government assumed a caretaker role, with an election to be held on 21 August 2010. Information on Human Services Portfolio websites will be published in accordance with the Guidance on Caretaker Conventions circulated by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.

The ATO has learnt that some employers didn’t include the correct amount of their reportable super on 2009–10 payment summaries. This could affect the amount of child support you pay or receive, or your eligibility for Centrelink benefits. Check your summary – if you’re affected, talk to your employer and visit the ATO website for more information
