Are you a self employed parent?
As a self employed parent, you might have more complex business arrangements which can affect the income we use to work out your child support. If your income changes you can:
- make an estimate of your current adjusted taxable income to replace the adjusted taxable income from a previous year
- apply for any extra money you've earned after separation to be excluded from your child support assessment
- apply for a change of assessment in special circumstances.
The options above might not be suitable for your personal situation. Call us on 131 272* for more information or to talk about your situation and the options available to you.
Child support and Family Tax Benefit
Family Tax Benefit and Youth Allowance payments changed when the 'Supporting Families with Teenagers' measure started on 1 January 2012. If your child is continuing secondary study after they turn 18, you need to apply to extend your child support assessment. Make sure you apply before the child's 18th birthday so you receive the correct amount of Family Tax Benefit.
Complete an application in the 'forms' section of CSAonline or call us on 131 272*. You can also read more about the changes under Supporting Families with Teenagers.
2012 Protected Earnings Amount now live
Employers can now access the 2012 Child Support Protected Earnings Amount (PEA) rates in the online calculator and the updated employer PEA page.
The PEA is a minimum amount that must be left after tax and child support is deducted from a person's wage. The PEA rates have also been revised in the 2012 edition of The Employers Guide to Child Support, which will be available for download soon. Check back here for updates.
